Bristlecone Pine trees are the oldest trees on the planet. They grow in the harshest conditions all across the Rocky Mountains.
These trees normally grow at elevations above 7,500 feet and live to be up to 4,900 years old. They grow up to 60 feet tall.

A forest fire in 1873 consumed a vast area near the La Garita Mountains. Ute Indians started the fire to rid the area of Spanish Settlers who were encroaching on their sacred grounds. Today, only a few dead standing trees are found in this area.
When the tree is damaged by drought, damaging storms, lightning or fire part of the tree will die. The surviving part of the tree will continue to grow.
Due to the dense wood of the Bristlecone Pine Tree; insects, bacteria and fungus can not harm it.
We harvest only dead standing trees to create these beautiful handmade Jewelry Boxes.
The Bristlecone Pine wood is honey in color. The growth rings are very tight placing the wood in these jewelry boxes to be from 250 to 1,000 years old.
